Colors changed, one or two new effects and complete.
Nothing new, no wow effect, or what one knocks down. pity

If your doing a job for NASA then this theme will do, we all know the new CSS trans work. No style to this month's theme and more of a showcase to your new icon set and css.

I really need to think about my renewal as im maybe using 2-3 templates each new renewal.

I agree with nearly all the comments here.

YOOtheme... what is going on?? It seems like the quality and uniqueness of YOOr templates is really dropping off. As a 3-year member holding a developer license, this has me fairly concerned.

I realize that not every template will be suited for everyone. That said, the last several months releases seem to be the same thing, just with very minor variations and different available template styles.

To be honest, over my last 3 years membership, I really only end up using 2-3 templates each year that are released.

I'm bothered to write in english according to your policy, though we both are nativ german speakers. As I signed my membership, yootheme was outstanding in comparison to other template providers. By now the gap is getting more tight. Please decide, if your're gonna focus more on design or on techniques, as long as you don't have the manpower to put both to the maximum. I would prefer, if all your widgets and styles would work correctly with IE9 than a having a common template every month.

A long time ago I have posted a support request without any reaction. Thus I'm only using those parts from yootheme, which work without a lot of debugging efforts. Let me say 90% off your work is great and sophisticated. If your reaction in the support section will be as quick as here, I'll try it again.

I'm waiting for a template which is better than Nano theme.

I have refreshed yootheme.com for more than 20 times, because I thought a new template will be released on 2012-04-01. But I didn't.

Today I see it, but it's not my style. I love the moving images and eye-catching effect. I hope it can be achieve in the Widgekit set some day.

Gas up. I'm waiting for a template which is better than Nano theme.

    Hi,

first of all thanks for all your feedback. I would like to give you a short reply to some of the critics, mentioned here.

We work very hard to bring you a broad palette of new quality themes every month. And like all the other themes, we put a lot of effort into Radiance theme as well.

The theme offers you a lot of unique features, that maybe are not visible at first sight. Just let me mention some examples:

Radiance differs a lot from the latest themes by allowing you to publish your content directly on the colorful backgrounds. It allows you to create a modern and "boxless" layout. This possibility makes Radiance very outstanding.

Additionally you can also choose from different wrapper and module styles: blank, transparent and white. This allows you to create very different layouts and sites with one and the same theme and makes Radiance incredibly flexible.

Many elements are lovingly adjusted for each color style and each module/wrapper option!

Please do also check the "Features" site of every theme, there you will find an overview of many unique features.

    Best Regards
    Sven

colorful backgrounds = problems to use this template for business pages
My customers are lawyers, estate agents, financial service providers. Each of them would probably kill me for a colourful background with a fancy firefly effect :-/ I used 'Revista' now for 3 different customer websites and if one of them finds out that i did that ......
Unfortunately the Joomla support for 1.5 ends this month, so I am probably not the only one who has to migrate a couple of pages and needs a template for that new 2.5 pages now. Business templates! In this case 'Radiance' does not help at all.

Sven... I think the Yoo Theme Team did a great job with Aprils template. Yoo Theme templates are full of features and very easy to customize. I don't mean to sound harsh bust I think some member's think you are there personal designer each month. The value and benefits of a Yoo Theme membership far out way the negative. A good designer / developer can transform the Radiance Template into a nice site for any form of business. I personally feel the Warp Framework is priceless and blows away the competition. The templates Yoo Theme builds are extremely lightweight. So keep up the great work!

Don't think I am quite as disheartened as the others but we do need to see more corporate "business" template designs I think.

This one is probably going to be suitable to a small subset of businesses and organisations but the likes of the "firefly effect" is just a bit silly in my opinion, it's really not going to add anything to a real website is it ?!

Why, I can think of several instances that I would use this. It really depends on your client and your own "out of the box" thinking. If something can be turned off per preference, why complain about it?

            bigfrontdoor

            | Profile |
I'm not sure I was "complaining". My out of the box thinking is absolutely fine but I can assure you that the average user visiting a website, any website, doesn't want to see bloody fireflies floating all over the screen !

It's easily switched off and the template is decent aside from that in my opinion, just seemed to me to be an effect put in purely for the sake of it.

If you can use it on your client sites then great.

Not quite sure what is the usefulness of a space template. Take note YooTheme:

    1. Too many dark/gaming templates
    2. Enough with the space templates
    3. We need more diversity--templates that can be applied to less masculine sites, templates that can have usefulness for professional sites, templates that have some solid module variation differences (not just color/heading changes)

Not a fan of Radiance as it applies to typical web designers needs.

I'm struggling to find a use for the last few templates because they don't fit any themes of any of the sites I'm building and because of that I'm having to look elsewhere.

Let's have some business style templates that will fit a more general kind of commercial site, please :)

There is a big GAP between positive feedback and negative feedback.

The worse thing you can do to someone who did put an effort in a Job is to write some of the dumb comments written here.

If you do not like the template, do not use it, find another one and move on.

My message to YT Team is that good job, and it can be enhanced a little if you add a class for a background for the module name.

As for the CSS animations, I think if you can ass different options would help, maybe use some of the last YT of March.

Overall thank you YT for your usual good work.

I won't go as far as some of the others...but I would strongly agree that more business oriented sites would be welcomed....I think all of us on here have chosen YooTheme because the designs are incredible....I actually deal with a lot of government entities and the "gamer" sites just don't work for me. It's such a small demographic and focus should really be placed on the corporate or professional market. Well I have mixed feelings about the Radiance template. I am in the USA and paid about $100 for 12 month membership. So I get 12 new templates plus all the old ones. So not including the older templates that I can download and just the 12 new ones I am paying a whole $8.33 per template. So although I am not totally excited about the April template I am happy to have a membership with Yoo Theme. The Warp framework is awesome and in my opinion blows away Rocket Themes Gantry framework. I can understand how some members disappointed that the template doesn’t work for their current clients. But if you are a true website developer then you can transform any template into something that meets the needs of your customers. A good designer could take the same template and use it on 3 different sites and the average eye would not notice the difference. Yes... it may take some time to tweak a template to meet your needs but still far less time than if you were to build it from scratch. I am not saying that the ones who left negative comments are bad designers or developers. I think as Yoo Theme as a business that provides me with great tools to build websites. Call up a few Joomla Developers and ask them what they would charge you to build a template as complex as Radiance. It would be a lot more than a Yoo Theme membership cost.
If you build websites for people and expect a magic template to come out each month that you can slap a logo and text on and everything will be perfect then you’re in the wrong business. With a little work the Radiance Theme can work for almost any business you can imagine. If you want to use it for a business website turn off the background effects, change a few colors, and there you go. So maybe Yoo Theme needs to mix it up a little more and they will. We must all remember that Yoo Theme brought us Widget Kit, Zoo, and Warp Framework. I am confident that Yoo Theme will create some more amazing tools and templates for us all to enjoy.

The complainers tend to be "young" developers who have grown to "download and install" with their "generation". You have to do everything for them. So, YooTheme, "oldtimers" love you, because they see things like you do. For the youngsters, you could just configure more "presets" to suit wider needs and everyone would be happy.

This is great! I spent the last couple days pouring over all the Warp 6 templates available, and none of them quite had the exact set of features I needed. Then the April template is released, and it is perfect.

The added bonus is that it appears most people hate it, so it won't be overused. Not sure about all the hating, though. This template can showcase a lot of things in dark or light styles.

The worst templates are the "flashy" design-heavy ones that are so obvious when different sites use the same template. The best templates are the ones that really on the content of the site, and are not so obvious when different sites use the same template.

That's the reason I switched to yooTheme, and the reason I am staying.

    Keep up the excellent work!

You guys do realize that there is a lot of customization with Radiance. Don't like the fireflies? Turn 'em off. Don't like the extreme colors? Choose white of black. I do agree that it doesn't pack such a 'Wow' punch like some others do, but hey, not every theme is for me... or you. This is one of them. I won't use it, but it's still nice.

And don't be so hard on the guys. They're still doing a great job. It's certainly not Rocket Theme, where every theme for nearly a year has been bland, basic and genuinely boring. The Yoo crew are still kicking out nice stuff, and I for one, will be staying.
Look at Balance, Revista, Catalyst, Cloud, Streamline, Shelf, Downtown... all recent, and all nice themes (though I admit I don't care for Inspire).

So Radiance isn't for me, but it's still far from terrible. My only suggestion, and this is for a lot of themes, is to be able to vary the logo positioning from within the themes backend.

Overall, I still say 'Good job'!

I do totally agree about the framework. More variations and control would be nice as well. Like maybe a middle ground between Warp and Gantry. Gantry does have a lot of options, I'll give ;em that. But to me, it's really too much, and is intensive to learn. I like the simplicity of Yoo and Warp. 'Yoo' are still my guys!!

Hummm, I don't totally agree. Balance could easily be used as corporate with a few tweaks. And Cloud is a fantastic theme that could easily be corporate. And Revista, as well as some older one's like nano and Enterprise.
But I do see your point. More professional, serious, 'mature' themes out of the box would be nice. I'm still sticking with 'Yoo'. If you compare with some others, Yoo is still top notch to me, with Gavick coming in second (though they lack the options that Yoothems do).

I find it very frustrating to see so many harsh comments about Aprils template. Yoo Theme makes high quality templates that can be used for a variety of types of websites. Yoo Theme is a template club and not everyone's person custom Joomla Template maker. This may sound harsh but I can't hold back. To say that the Radiance template can only be used for KIDS TO MAKE GAME PORTAL SITES or a site for NASA is ridiculous. If you are a true web designer or developer with a pinch of creativity then you can make the Radiance theme work for whatever you need. If some of you want Yoo Theme to build a "custom" template for each of your projects then you need to hire them to do that, or contact another developer. It wil lcost hundreds to thousands of dollars to have someone to custom build a template. Especially if you want to slap your name on the bottom as a designer and not give the real designer any credit. As a Yoo Theme member in the USA I pay about $8.33 a month for a new template. I am not sure what some people want for that price. A template club is to provide you with a template and tools to build off from. It would be impossible for YOO THEME to make a template every month that would make everyone happy. You can turn the firefly effect off and change the images with the radiance template. I intend on using the template for a restaurant website and a few other projects. It is a universal and easy to customize template. I am not trying to disrespect anyone just sharing my point of view.

And the price is what you ask for. Make a different calculation if you don't like it. It seams you have a problem with critic. Well you should learn to deal with it.

Michael...I am not sure why you replied to my post the way you did. I am not an employee of Yoo Theme. I don't have a problem with critic. I design and develop websites for my clients and they are very happy. The website templates Yoo Theme makes can not meet the needs of every client right out of the box. The latest theme can be used for a variety of uses. It just takes some creativity, and design skills. If you are wanting Yoo Theme to basically totally design your clients websites then your in the wrong business. ... Peace...

I am simply a happy Yoo Theme who is frustrating with some of the negative comments on here. Yoo Theme makes great templates and other tools. I was stating in my other post that the template for April cost me about $8.33 (American Dollars). I will use it for several different client sites and make a lot of money. I am not the best designer in the world but I have HTML, PHP, and CSS skills. I am also creative. To me it seems like some of the memebers of Yoo Theme want Yoo Theme to basically build there clients websites for them when they are only paying $100 a year for a least twelve new templates. Templates from clubs are simply a foundation for a website. If I invest 40 hours in tweaking a template for Yoo Theme to meet my clients need then I am still much farther ahead than if I were to build if from scratch.

I have to agree with greg.van here. As a Joomla consultant and developer I used to belong to most of the top template clubs, simply to give my clients the widest range of choices. However, year after year I began to modify YooTheme's templates to match the clients design. I'm not down playing other template providers at all, you can't have a solution for 100% of the market. But, I just find that I can modify YooTheme templates in half the time required to do it with other frameworks. I also can have a simple, lite clean design for clients that like clean and simple (Yoo has all others beat in this market) or complicate the heck out of the template if that's what the client wants. I have since kept only 3 of the template clubs and dropped all the others. And one is only for access to their extensions. I changed all of my personal web sites over to YooTheme templates. I wouldn't complain about the designs, somebody isn't going to like it. I would spend more time learning about the framework and customizing it to suit your needs, because it just works and the erros and trouble I have with other frameworks just doesn't happen with YooTheme. For me time is money and that is far more important than me changing some graphics to suit a design.
The only thing I would like to see.... Air and Vanilla moved to Warp6 :) Oh heck, move them all to Warp6.
Just want to say I love YooTheme! Love Zoo! Love the Warp6 Framework!

I have to say I am shocked at all the neg feedback. I took on a project with a YOO base and have to say I am glad I did.

The ongoing criticism about no business sites seem totally off base to me.... MAYBE not all business templates moved to Warp 6 but between Revista, Vanilla, Pure, Cloud, Milk, Nano etc there seems no lack.

I wonder sometimes if we overlook the fact that we need to put in OUR chops to make the sites "business" vs "gamer". YOO offers us the grid and initial set up.. its up to use to make the changes to CSS for styling not just slap stuff in the boxes and call it good.

YOO makes that all so very much easier than any other club out there... but it remains our jobs to do the leg work!

YOO all keep up the good work!

Well I read though about 2/3 of the comments and most of them were negative. My 2 cents is that YOOtheme is one of best (if not the best) company out there for this type of work!

The new theme and the Inspire theme ROCK! I recently finished a web using the Vanilla them and I am currently building a new theme using Inspire and I have a eCommerce site in the hopper that I will the new theme on which will make is an absolute AWESOME site!

The YOOtheme support team has been outstanding in answering ALL of my question... and boy do I post some dumb ones but they are patient and all ways provide the correct level of detail in their prompt responses.

Right now I have more projects then I can complete because of the great foundation and dynamics YOOtheme provides!

    Thank you YOOtheme!

YOOtheme are still ahead of the competition. I think with templates you sometimes get lucky (did a flight search site just when cloud came out!) and sometimes you have to work with them to get what you want (and Nano is still great for that)
Having said that, more sites are probably paid for by 'corporate' than 'creative' money so it would be great to have a little more emphasis in this direction.
...maybe 2 templates per month - that should do it!

The point is not if you like or not this template.
I think that the problem is the lack of business template, like most users already said.
For me Nano is the template actually is the best one, because sometimes less is more.
Nano should be perfect with a little more typography stiles.
I'm still waiting for this and I was disappointed too this month.

    YOO are still THE BEST.

Please do not get disheartened at all from all the feedback above. You should know that so many people are writing because they care. We have come to love YOO for obvious reasons. In many aspects, you are like our Apple of Joomla. You have amazed us so many times, that anything but amazing feels frustrating.

If I may, I have 3 suggestions for YOO:

    1. Bring back the old themes - 2008 onwards and clean them up for J 2.5. There are some awesome themes in there.

    2. Perhaps create some resources (videos?) for assisting people in creating their own templates using Warp 6 (if that is an option). I look at sites made using Yoo but cannot recognize Yoo in there. I would like to learn.

    3. PLEASE bring out some ecommerce templates for business that is fully functional. The beauty of ZOO with the shopping cart power of VM. I would pay extra for such an option from YOO. I know of so many others who feel that way. So, PLEASE.

Yoo be what you are. We will love you, and we will always try to renew our membership with Yoo.

    LOVE YOO.

I must say I have also been a bit underwhelmed lately. Although I do feel that YT put effort into each template and that they all have a degree of "polish", it feels like, design-wise, many themes are just recapitulations of older themes with some reskinning.

The point that a number of themes are not usable for business sites without heavy customisation is a fair one. Radiance is a good example, and most users will end up turning off the fancy animations which though they might be "cool" are not appropriate for professional sites.

Personally I think that YT should approach theme design in a more client focused way. Use exemplar sites out there as a a basis for design if you're struggling for ideas. Warp itself is excellent and a fantastic basis upon which to build sites - on that I think we all agree - but many will question whether, after all the heavy customisation needed to a theme to make it usable for their project, they might not be better off starting with Nano.

Broadly speaking there are two approaches: a. make templates that will have a broad general appeal, b. make templates that are focussed towards specific needs. Templates like Shelf are good examples of (b), where Nano and Cloud are good examples of (a). In my view there should be a ratio of 2:1 specific:general.

Like many, as a designer and developer I am looking for templates that will allow me to fulfill clients' needs. So here's an example of what I'm talking about in the (b) category...

Say a client comes to me who is a Photography business. We need a template with flexible layouts, widgets and styles to cover the raft of stylistic needs for top-drawer photography sites. Call the template "Photography", and keep updating it periodically with new styles, layouts and widgets to keep that template top of the "photography site building" game. Make everything you do focused around the target market segment. Invite the community to get involved by suggesting exemplar sites and requesting features; for example in the area of Photography we'd like some more widgetkit gallery, lightbox and photo wall options, or perhaps a sliding thumbnail presenter.

I know that, here and there, YT do this. For example, Revista is News focused. But things could be much better if Revista was "Magazine/News" and had more flexible layouts, styles and customisation options for that purpose.

I'd also like some more effort put in to compatibility with different devices and browsers. None of your recent themes work properly with Opera 11 and there are quirks with other browsers as others have mentioned. I've reported a bug with the WK-lightbox on touch devices that has thus far been unanswered.

I'm not unhappy with YT generally but there is always room for improvement and I hope some of these comments are taken onboard.

    S :)

I wonder if there would have been such an uproar if Yootheme designers had used more business focused graphics on the demo site for this theme? The use of spaceships, space creatures, and monkeys appears to have alienated (pun intended) business oriented users.

This template has some promise, but you probably can't show it to customers. Most people cannot see beyond the demo site graphics and photos to imagine the possibilities.

If the demo site showed how this theme could have been used for a business situation, I doubt there would have been more than the usual kind of commentary.

Perhaps Yootheme wants to keep the demo site generic for this very reason. If that is the case, then I would recommend they rethink that strategy and use more "fake business" oriented graphics. Unless, of course, the theme is intended to be "fun' or "gaming' oriented.

    Fully agree.

I was really disappointed when I saw the "spaceships theme" as I was percieving this the first day I saw it.

However I gave it a test run and applied it to my site and after beeing able to see behind this "alienating monkeys" I found this to match wonderful and selected it as the final theme to use...

As most people here are making a subscription not for private but yes for usually small business client projects, I highly recomend everybody at Yootheme to keep this in mind and show/sell/present the theme appropriately as it wil surely facilitate the emotional connection with your clients.

Having said that I want to thank Yoothemes as it really reduces my work a lot and I hope it goes on like this.

I think its a great template from a great template maker, I too don't understand all the negative comments, I'm no programmer but I can make any Yootheme template look very different from the demo with about an hours work, and it works with nearly every extension on the market and with every browser/OS going. I can't do that from scratch, if I could I would be working for NASA.

Well, I read every every single comment.

On balance I have to agree that perhaps I was initially a little in the camp of the "It's not very applicable in a general way", however I am now firmly in the "It's what you make of it" camp.

My only gripe with Yoo is the sketchy MSSQL support, the underlying cascade framework is good, "styles" an excellent approach to overide management.

It would be nice to be able to overide files that were not in the original "style" scope but I recognise the technical issues that may arise from that.

All in this is a sweet framework with a talented set of designers saying "Hey, look, you could do this"... but you don't have to.

I paid the top whack price for a single site and I still consider this a great bargain, I am relatively new to Joomla but an experienced software dev; I had almost completed my clients new site but was unhappy with the underlying spaghetti. (It never hurts to be honest, we all make mistakes) the warp framework has replaced this neatly.

The template, icons and theming is all gravy.

IF I could change one thing that yoo offered it would be an automatically generating menu component that works on MSSQL. That would be handy.

Thanks for all your hard work, at whatever price, I thought the monkey looked a little emotionally challenged if I'm honest but the alien was cute :)

Have a great day, perhaps this - hopefully - balanced review will be an end to the theme trolling: IF you are stuck for ideas on how to amend the templates just google around, I did and within a day I had a whole list of resources, tips and ideas, 3 days later I have a completed client site that is live, a happy client, no spaghetti and a head full of new ideas.

For the price of a sit-down meal. (but not spaghetti) Bargain.
