Coming up on YOOtheme

New YOOtheme product you all have been waiting for...

About a year ago we worked hard in our labs to bring you our famous YOOtools extensions. Maybe you wonder which ace we got up our sleeve this time ;-). We know it's been a while since we released the last YOOtools and the Teamlog extension. It probably seemed that things had calmed down around us. The reason was that we were working on a new project that turned out to be of the more comprehensive kind, and we didn't want to get too ahead of ourselves yet. We just needed some time to develop it, see how it turns out, bugfix things, add features and change some things around again.

Today we are announcing that very soon it will be time to break our silence. Something big is close to being unveiled, and we're really excited about it. We don't want to let the cat out of the bag but we can say it is a long awaited Joomla extension. We're sure you'll love it, so take a look at our new teaser website and keep checking back within the next couple of weeks. Drumroll!

Predictions anyone? Perhaps an E-Comm specific template? Maybe a social networking extension/template? In any case, I'm excited and I'm certain it's going to be awesome. I would expect no less from the Yoo team.

I hope that's not the case. I use and like JomComment and MyBlog - and am mighty impressed with everything Azrul does, but without competition who knows what would happen? Despite it's flaws there's a lot of customisability with CB, and a lot of third party support. From a Darwinian perspective two strong contenders better than one, no?

Yootheme write about a extension, so it won't be a Jomsocial Template (but i would very appreciate it to have one). I also think that it will be any video extension. I'm very excited, i think it will come out on february with the second 2009 template..

screw that, why do we need another community builder? Have any of you people seen joomsuite.com ??? If you want a social community tools and all the such then get it there; if you whole site circles around community and social networking then why the hell are you using joomla? Get Elgg or something else with better ACL and built in social.

I personally give the the yootheme team much more credit. I think this will be something truly innovative. Can't you people post something more interesting or creative than "an alternative to xxxx...", geez.

  I agree i am so tired of people saying social networking template. We really need a video plugin/gallery thats amazing. I hope this is what they are working on. If so i am sure i will not be dissapointed. Yoo Gallery is awesome. Lets hope for Yoo Video Gallery.

  I don't want to build another facebook or myspace stupid clone, I want a component to handle several user profiles easily, and some community features like add groups of friends and handle incoming events.

like I said, if your sites revolves around a social aspect, then you shouldn't be using joomla, it wasn't built for this, and you are lazy, and if you want something better than CB take a look at joomsuite.com -- I hate to repeat myself but you asked for it

also, read carefully, this isn't a request forum, it's to speculate on the new yootheme prospect

ecommerce.. PULEEEAAAASSE..... there is absolutely nothing out there which plugs into Joomla and actually works... unless you want to pay heaps of cash.. and then im not sure how good they are anyway (not from the comments I have seen)..
We need a DECENT ecommerce system!!

  I agree with David!! I have been using Virtuemart and though it's better than some of the other commercial products I've seen using programs like Dreamweaver and Microsoft, it still lacks the ease and flexibility in getting your cart just the way you like it. JoomSuite is coming out with something but they are having set backs.

Ok i think its time for some info on this. Throw us something like a screenshot at least we can see what it is you are developing and we can give you some feedback and maybe some ideas before you release it. Let us help you make it the absolute best. Just my thoughts.

  I agree with you Aaron and just think we could give some feedback. Doesnt feedback make a product better? Just my thoughts although i will say i havent been disapointed by yootheme yet. Its been 10 days since they started this whole announcement comments of a new and amazing product. Its time for some info i think. nobody is rushing them to finish we just want to have an idea of what it is.

    Exactly, I understand that it will be ready when its ready. but I am literally checking the site every few hours to see if its announced so i can either continue working on my front page, or not. They said two weeks, its nearly been two weeks, and still nothing yet. I understand if its not ready, but you can tell us what it is generally and then I dont have to risk stopping production on my site for 2+ weeks for nothing. Just a thought.

      "Couple" means not automaticelly two, it can ba aslo translated by "few" or "next". I bet it will be released with the new february template.

        not ot get too off track, but a couple means two. its a pairing. On the other hand "a few" generally means three and some or several generally mean 5 or more, but those are not precisely defined as couple is. (At least in American english)

Pointless and a waste of time to us, yes. To them no, look at it from a marketing point of view, it creates hype for something which has kept most of you hitting their site every few hours...imo, that is what a business would want right? I would hardly say its pointless, keeps possible members from canceling their accounts, so that they can see new features/templates etc. This is something almost every major business does.

Be patient, Im sure it will be soon.

  Generating hype outside your existing customer base is good business. Keeping your existing customers hitting refresh all the while getting more and more angry about having to hit refresh is not good business.

    I agree with you Aaron look at joomlart.com they actually started putting up previews of their templates up before releasing at least if you are going to have a comment section on this release give us something to comment about.       Give us something to comment about? I think they have. There are two pages of people decussing what it could be. I mean I could be wrong. But it sure looks like a lot of comments about this hype be it good or bad.
      
      PS. @David T Baron: Get over the video extension. It is not a video extension and just because you comment on everyones comments saying "I HOPE ITS A VIDEO EXTENSOIN *screams like a little girl and wets pants* " does not mean they are gonna drop what ever they are doing and make one because you keep annoying all of us with your crummy ideas.

After the last two articles about template overrides, I'm wondering if the new Y component has something to do with it :-O. It woud be useful to be able to manage/modify template overrides directly from Joomla backend.

I spread a new rumor *G* I have senn that Yootheme follows the Magento Team on Twitter now. Magento is a very professional open source shopsoftware (like XT-Commerce or ZenCart). Could it be that the new extension is a magento bridge?

My guess (more like my wish) is that it's a template parameter manager component, like Tatami by ninjoomla, to more easily customize their templates and implement their new overrides..

For anyone watching the blog they said they had there own plugin for intergration between Joomla and PHPbb3 also on twitter they said they were making some new layouts but not all were for Joomla. Come on guys put some stuff together. I bet it's a PHPbb3 intergration and they are gonna start releasing PHPbb3 layouts.

  Guys wouldnt it be great to be able to put a bunch of flv files and a preview picture for each video in a folder and have a video gallery like yoo gallery. It would be a first and one and only of all extension.And if you clicked on the preview it would open up in something like shadwobox. Which we all know supports flv videos and JW FLV PLayer. I think if they could pull that off other joomla subscription sites would be totally in awe. Cmon yoo theme we all know you could pull this off.

I never said it was so easy basically what i am saying is the guys at yoo theme are good at what they do(a compliment at best) and in my opinion from all of their previous extensions which are really good they probably could do it. But i never said it was gonna be easy. Also never expected them to do it just because i said so. Cmon dude get over yourself. All of these comments are based on what we think it is gonna be. Yoo theme has not given us anything to comment about yet. So until then stop bashing me.

        Actully they have, do you follow there twitter? Just over 2 weeks ago they said this: "Just creating some new templates - but not only for our next template release". I didn't think much of it till I read this: "We migrated our user database and developed our own plugin to synchronize the Joomla 1.5 and phpBB3 users" and throught that they might be building on that. I mean what is one of the most used things on a site? A forum. It brings together a group of people to dicuss a subject.

        For Example: "That sounds OK but I was thinking it may be X because of Y" and don't just keep saying it because people don't like people who just repeat themeselves.
