Today we reveal

... not everything but at least the name of our new baby

Feb
02

Being our only child componentwise we thought the Teamlog might feel a little lonely, and since we got a lot of positive feedback on it we thought it would be a good idea to create another Joomla component ;-)

In our next post we will show you some of its features. We know we teased you a bit for the last month, but you might already guess what it is from the name and the little hints we put on the new teaser site.

Culd be a "Zoo-Mer" - addon with when-mouse-over-zooming effect. Maybe someting in Yoocarusell style and MacOS feeling.

Are there news if there will be also a free beta like the teamlog it has?

    Content Construction Kit (CCK):
It will be a new way for presenting content of various kinds.
It will be able to organize conten in rows/tables/vertcally/horizontically what ever you want
    Autothum creation/Open-close-ajax features
It will smoothly connect with your wysiwyg-editor
It will handle php ans j-scripts

So it is written - so it shall be done ;-)

I think it is a component that overrides all module and content settings PER module/content item. And perhaps it even would enable us to position the modules more freely. This would mean that no longer there is a restriction on a fixed layout for a template.

The name Zoo does imply something like this, as a zoo has many different types of animals in different cages/environments, all fit together in a nice place called: the Zoo!

Well, if I am wrong, at least it was a nice creative moment! :-)

    Best,
    Tom

I thought we already knew it was called "zoo." A simple check of the source code of the old page included the word "zoo" in their meta keywords. Ehh. Give me more!
  • Guys, the answer is on the soon page...CCK for Joomla!! It's one of the most awaited features for Joomla.

CCK component for Joomla will be a killer-component. The only component which is near to CCK I'm aware of is Joomsuite Content.

Sascha, any info on type of license you'll release Zoo under? Free? Paid?

From what I've heard, JoomSuite's component outputs a lot of table spaghetti. If this really is CCK for Joomla, I expect (based on YooTheme's templates) that the markup will be much nicer.

There are TWO types of CCK:

    Content Construction Kit
    Community Construction Kit

Lets see which one this will be... I think it will be Content, as Drupal already has one and Joomla not.

      Well, they call it

"the Swiss army knife for your website" and
      "the Super missing Component"

so for me it's clear it would be a Content Construction Kit and that's awesome!

I can't wait anymore, I want to install it now!!!
Thanks YOOtheme! making our life happier...

Typically CCK stands for Content not Community, but I do see your correlation with the name Zoo. If it were powerful enough to build Community (Social) features as Content, well..well, that'd just be the beezkneez. However, YOOployee's, if you're listening. The next component you should be working on if this isn't it would be a Social Networking component. The market is wide open right now and in much demand. No one can seem to get it together, Jomsocial and Joomunity, just aren't hitting the mark. I know the attention to details from you guys would deliver a solid product in that market. Thanks much. Can't wait to see the full workings of Zoo!

Since my hopes of a video extension are not likely and looking at the clues i think it may also be a community extension. Jom social is ok but not quite there yet. We will have to see. Remember they said they were making templates and not for their current template release. Somebody was sure it was going to be phbb3 or commerce but now we see it isnt. So i am thinking what are the templates going to be for????? I am thinking community templates to integrate with all of yoo themes current and previous templates. I would be pleased if so.

I think YooTheme should have a sister site "YooComponents" or something like that - that would be good, release a new component each month.

Components (good ones, anyway) don't just get developed in a month. Nice thought though.

I don't want a lot of useless components just to reach the (marketing) mark of "one component each month". I'd prefer a few good-quality, well-tested components with killer features. I don't care if I have to wait 3 or 4 month to got it. YooTheme team said they had been working for 1 year developing ZOO, and I think this new component would be awesome and YooTheme has been in the right direction.
  • Man, I wish someone would release a decent discussion forum extension for J1.5! I tell you, fireboard's okay but a pain to template/theme and well, all the bridge solutions ultimately aren't even as flex re:templating (not to mention the user/login-sync's never working 100%).. Not to diss cck for Joomla (its much needed: few other people working on the same thing asides Teeman: http://whyjoomla.com/blog/scalability/70-custom-content-types-thanks-google-summer-of-code

By now I did some reseach and come to the conclusion that this must be Content CK. If you see what is being developed so that there is free positioning and module and content defining... Amazing! A whole new era is about to start for Joomla.

Right. This is certainly a Content CK and will open up the development possibilities of Joomla to near infinite possibilities. So being structured as a component for Content, there probably won't be too many whiteboard social or community modules but rather it will give the power to more easily create custom blogs, forums, profile pages, private messaging, friendships, etc. as content modules. It should give the power to tailor custom social/community features to a site rather than dealing with the frustratingly current option of altering the code to rid/add the features we need from a component such as "jomsocial" or "joomsuite people touch".

Okay. Time for the next post! Let's see some features. Been teased long enough. At least give a time frame for release. 1 month? 3 months? 6 months? From a developer standpoint, kinda need to know so I can relay accurate information as to the content possibilities of current and future client projects. Things are on hold and in limbo in hopes this will be a working CCK we've all been waiting for. I know the whole teasing and anticipation bit is good for marketing, but time to get down to business with some hard facts and expectations of release on this one. Thanks for the hard work and dedication nonetheless.

I also agree i have been hesitant to dive into a project i am working on. I try to be the best at what i do and be efficient. Really do not want to put a lot of effort into a project only to re do it. I understand you want to keep the info limited as possible so your competitors do not try to copy you guys. But a realistic time frame is definitely needed. I am not like others trying to rush a release but as you know planning is key to any important project. I think others would agree if it takes longer to release so be it that means its only going to be that much better. But an estimated time frame is definitely needed. Even if you do not want to give a date at least show us what percentage is complete so we know we are getting close. just my thoughts.
on another note i think you guys do great work. Thank you
