Do YOO speak the language? (A bit of fun distraction)

I got to thinking that the Support forum could use a YOOdish - English translation guide!

Please feel free to contribute or add your own YOOdish-(YOOR LANGUAGE) guide. Words and phrases!

If adding to a guide make sure to note which one at the top with

"@YOOdish-XXXXXX"

P.S. Thanks to the Yiddish speakers out there for having an easily pilfered language name. :) Remember imitation is the finest form of flattery, YOO Betcha!

etYOOmology=etymology noun. a chronological account of the birth and development of a particular word or element of a word, often delineating its spread from one language to another and its evolving changes in form and meaning. Specific to YOOdish.

YOO=You USAGE: "YOO are one heck of a developer, YOOtheme!" var. YOOr, YOO're, YOO've

YOOgards=Regards A sign off, most commonly attributed to Mustaq, a YOOxpert with YOOtheme.

YOOse=Use verb. USAGE: "I YOOse Zoo 2.5.17, Widgetkit 1.0.5 and Pure..."

YOObie=Newbie USAGE: "That CassVox is a YOObie to this forum, as well as a goof!"

YOOxpert=Expert A person who is a master YOOser, experienced developer or support engineer for YOOtheme.

YOOser=User 1. A person who YOOses YOOtheme products. 2. A YOOtheme addict.

Ok, that is my start...

Thanks to all of YOO!

Oh the fun we have with our own YOOphemisms shared internally among us YOOgeeks. I'll be sure to pull in YOOmasters like Bob, Michael, Mustaq, Zach, and others when I get back to my computer.

UPDATE: To quote Michael from our chat system:

Working on a YOOnified Terminology

The words below are not words we actually use, but created in the spirit of fun.

Don't forget the other words in the YOOniverse from which to extend the vernacYOOlar such as Warp and ZOO.

Words that are expressions of joy:

  • ZOOper -> Super
  • YOOtastic -> Fantastic
  • YOOpers -> Nostalgic references to the 50's version of "Jeepers" or "Golly Gee"

Word that describe various types of people in the YOOcommunity:

  • YOOteam: Any person employed by YOOtheme.
  • YOOdeveloper: Official YOOtheme Developer
  • YOOsupport: Any official YOOtheme Support Moderator (volunteer or employed).
  • YOOdesigner: Any member building designs using YOOtheme.
  • Warp Ninja: Proverbial techno geek masterful in the art of client side scripting.
  • YOOp Head: Although never used in the past, I can't help think how appropriate this might be to describe some of the less friendly members we've engaged with.
  • YOOb: Short for YOObie or Newb / Newbie. YOO gotta love those single syllable words.

Word that describe verbs or actions:

  • Warpified: To convert a common request into a new feature.
  • beYOOtified: To make a design characteristic take on the same beautiful design qualities we love with YOOtheme designs.

That's it for now. For the most part, I made these up in good fun and most are just over the top.

But here is the real question... is ZOO slang?

No, just the opposite. It's "Elaborated Code" in more than one meaning and most probably originates from one of my favourite records:

But don't tell anybody I told you!

I think the term "nYOObie" as a mash between the two earlier suggestions works better.

@George

OHHH... now we get to argue etYOOmology! Better and better!

YOOnewbie sounds a bit more like an accusation than a basic term.. maybe YOObie?

@David

I am sure the YOOphemisms fly fast and FYOOrious (HA! I like that one!) Having worked Tech Support and Customer Service for years I have my own "Wall of VYOOdoo" (Oh that one is good too) from past customer experiences.

But YOO guys and gals are great and we love YOO!

Here's hoping I don't get anyone in trouble for spending time on etYOOmology rather than support!

@michael,

Bring em on!

But here is the real question... is ZOO slang? Or just something those crazy WidgetKids speak?

The mind boogles!
