Nano2 menu in ios requires too many steps.

the drop down menu in the demo when viewing in ios 5.1.1 when viewed on a 3gs iphone device.

the drop down menu appears as the "scroll wheel" and requires a confirmation "done" click to go the the webpage selected from the menu.

this requires too much screen space and an additional click from the user.

needs to be more intuitive...click the item ...automatically go to the page.

in Android ICS..this drop down function takes you directly to the page selected without the additional confirm needed.

however..upon sleep and wake of ICS the webpage requires a refresh for the menu to become active again.

example:..sleep the device while on the nano2 webpage by turning off screen...then wake the device as normal, the menu now no longer functions. After a pge refresh the menu works again.

confirmed on a Motorola Photon and HTC EVO LTE

Guys,

This has nothing to do with yootheme.
It is not an issue and can't be fixed (only if apple decides to change the behaviour)

This is how iOS decide to make a select input work.
You pick the select option with the wheel and you click on ok. (ios decides that you could tap on one option without wanting to and add one more steps)

Im sure its just a minor code issue in the template ..set to call up the incorrect menu, as it doesnt do it on ipad or Android.

Ipad has different paradigm for select box they make a tooltip box appear with choice due to bigger screen estate, and easier to select for user.
And android has a box that appears with list of option and one click.

I think that a select input for the mobile menu is the best choice for a responsive layout.

UPDATE: did the sleep and test of select input menu 3 times on GS2 and no hickup, but I did see that behaviour on other website with select input freeze with android, so again that would be an android bug.

Best.

yeah me too.

this wont fly wiht the users.

too many steps

Im sure its just a minor code issue in the template ..set to call up the incorrect menu, as it doesnt do it on ipad or Android.

I am really excited about the responsive functionality of upcoming templates.

saves a ton of time and give the user a better and consistent experience across many devices and screen sizes.
but as with all things mobile..it has to be fast to view and fast to navigate.

so hopefully the issue will be fixed.

I haven't tested on iphone 4 or the 4s yet.

only tested on:

  • ipad2
  • 3gs iphone /ios 5.1.1
  • HTC EVO 4g / gingerbread
  • Motorola Photon / gingerbread
  • Asus transformer tablet / ICS

Its not IOS as far as I know as none of my other mobile templates do this.....are you sure its not in Yootheme?

go to this website via ios mobile device. I am testing it on ios 5.1.1 - iphone 3gs 16gb

http://demo.rockettheme.com
pick the Fresco template example

the menus when viewed in mobile mode behaves normally..no wheel is show, just the normal drop down.

RT has added a few transitions to their drop downs that although they are pretty, they slow things down, but you can see the core functionality is as it should be.

I'm not saying RT is better or anything as personally I think their templates are slow and bloated...but it was just one example of the menu working as it should.

Have you addressed this issue yet? Do you have an idea when it will be fixed?

I am ready to start developing a new site for a trade-show convention and need this to work properly

having a hybrid responsive site is perfect as many trade show attendees will be accessing the site from all sorts of devices.

and they all need the same information in the same format.

the menu issue is really bothering me.
I tested it out again last night on your demo site and it still too many steps to switch pages, Why cant there be a regular menu?

I read your explanation before but do not agree as other template companies mobile sites do not have this same menu problem. This is local to the Yootheme Nano template.

I just want my visitors to see the button and click it..not have to go though 3 steps to navigate from page to page...and then they cant even see what buttons are available unless they hit the dropdown.

it is very cumbersome and defeats the purpose of a mobile web site.

I see you have already released a new template but not addressed this very important flaw in your Nano2

the drop down menu in Nano2 and Sphere dont even make any sense when visiting on iphone or android phone.

its littered with all sorts of submenu items that require a ton of coast scrolling to get to anything.

you cant possible believe that this is a good way to present content and menu choices to users?

the responsive template platform is great..but the menus are almost useless and destroy the fluid nature of what a mobile site is supposed to do.

and you cant get rid of them because then...you would need a whole new site for desktop and mobile devices...the core idea is to have ONE site, ONE experience.

that is the concept you are striving for...but the menus completely screw it up.

  • desktop menu is correct
  • ipad 2 menu is correct
  • android ICS on a ASUS tf101 transformer and moto xoom is correct.

IOS phone - menu choice is a 3step process and also a 4 step if you count the swipe action to scroll.
Android phone ICS menu choice is a 3step process with the scroll. (tested on moto photon, evo4g and SG3

PLEASE RETHINK AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE
