Slideshow does not load complete on first load

Hi there,
I have created a new Slideshow that goes on Top A and it is made out of a Widgetkit module. When the pages loads the slideshow only loads portion of it. After the second or third load the slideshows works fine.
This will not work well if someone visits the page multiple times but in the occasion when new user visit the page this will not be appealing to them. How do i fix this?
Thanks

We are seeing this problem also. The solution of setting height and width being suggested (a few times) is no good if you have a responsive template - something that will become very common soon enough. We only see this bug in Chrome and often disappears after one or two refreshes. The trouble is Chrome is very popular browser and this bug means the main adspot on the homepage is almost hidden so it's not something that just be left to chance. Without an answer on this we will need to look elsewhere.

Since this is not something that we can easily replicate, you must post a link to the site where we can inspect this.
Also confirm that everything on your site is the latest versions.

I have the same issue, but it's intermittent.

http://goo.gl/vfQ3d

I posted multiple widgetkit modules (beta19) on the frontpage each containing a slideset and they refuse to load correctly the first attempt. each module only displays the first 2 slides instead of all 4 of them in the first slideset. If I reload they display correctly.

page load first attempt

page load second attempt
http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/1161/ytslideset2.jpg

I can't tell if this is a javascript issue, a gantry issue, or multiple uses of widgetkit on the frontpage (one page). I use the widgetkit slideshow in the main position and 6 instances of slideset below it.

I see the following javascript files loading on first load

media/system/js/mootools-core.js
media/system/js/caption.js
media/widgetkit/js/jquery.js

I'm seeing the same thing. The height and width are THERE, yet periodically the entire slide show block simply doesn't appear. I can clear the cache and refresh the page 5 or 6 times and it might finally appear. This is in Safari AND Chrome on a mac. I'm not sure if it's just Widgetkit, or if it's a conflict with Gantry (I'm using a rockettheme).

This page, for example:
http://globalawakening.com/testimonies

Will just load with the top slider missing (you'll see a large tan background area with just nothing there, just below the menu). It's really starting to get annoying.

Edit: I just added the height and width to the settings for the slide show (not just on the image itself in the text editor). THAT seems to make it load for me fairly consistently (Need to test it more).

I guess you have to use BOTH techniques to make it work right.

I've got the same problem. On a clean 2.5.9 install with the latest master warp theme and latest widgetkit. On first load it is collapsed. Shows maybe 30-40px hight, while it should show 390px. I check the code to see - and the hight is set in the code as it should.

This problem is present in all browsers I try. Chrome, IE, Dolphin, Android native, Chrome for Android, FireFox....

It seems this has been a problem a while. I had a good impression about yoo and their products, but after seeing this much about the same issue and it not being resolved I've got to wonder what's up with that.

I encountered the problem where slideshow would first show as about 30 pixels height on Chrome. It also displayed at larger than expected height on IE and Firefox. After reading Autur's answer I tried different variations on the image width and height parameters. I was able to solve the issue by setting width and height in the widgetkit slideshow settings dialog and in the html as visible through the editor. It required both of these to be set to the same values. The width and height parameters had to be either the exact pixel dimensions or slightly smaller than as displayed in the browser. Get out your pixel ruler and measure the full size image as it displays at 100% in your browser.

The way slideshow handles these width and height parameters isn't as expected, but it seems to resolve the issue I experienced. Hopefully, this will work for others that have experienced a similar issue.

So the new year has started and it would be nice if I could get a little support for this issue. I modified the ordering of content and system plugins to allow widgetkit to load first. it's becoming harder to reproduce this issue. that's a good sign, but it still does happen.

I also see the widgetkit slideset javascript file loading last.

Artur,
You may be up to something when the width and height of the slideshow is set to auto this is when it happens but when i tried to set the images height and width inside the parameters they do display in a weird way on first load. The image kind of jumps a little bit and them displays some what right.

Slideshow settings:
width: 600 Height:250

Pictures
width: 600 Height:250

Any ideas?

Avatar chris.mahon answered

I have this issue also but when displaying a gallery in the zoo product app. If I leave the width and height set to auto, the slidewhow occasionally only loads the top 15% of the image (usually only in Google Chrome). If I set the width and height though, the image then cuts off the top of the thumbnails somewhat and looks bad.

Any other potential ways to correct this?

Thanks

I was having a similar problem (images weren't loading on first load in my Widgetkit slideshow, but would load when I refreshed the page), and setting the height and width not only in the settings but also in each <img> tag solved the problem for me. An interesting note about the problem that I noticed: if I reloaded the page with Command + R, or by right-clicking and selecting Reload, the images still would not load. But if I clicked in the address bar and hit Enter, they would load every time. (This was before I manually set the height and width.)

I'm using Joomla 1.7.3, the Downtown theme, and Widgetkit 1.0.0 from January 10, 2012.

I have the same/similar problem. Coming to the page for the first time I get this error:
Fatal error: Class 'slideshowWidgetkitHelper' not found in D:\Hosting\8893921\html\administrator\components\com_widgetkit\classes\widgetkit.php on line 129
then when I hit the home button the page refreshes without displaying an error but, the slideshow widget appears blank.

I figured out that if you put the logo in a slideshow instead of gallery it will consistently load first try. A slide show is also the only way to successfully add img width and height in the html.

I submitted a bug for this 2 months ago and still no response

BTW I also did the same as Jenny above by adding height restrictions to the image and it still randomly causes the same issue.

<img style="border-radius: 6px 6px 6px 6px;" class="size-auto" src="image.jpg" alt="Image Name" height="90" border="0" width="120" />

Same issues here. The slideset on the homepage of the shelf template very frequently will not load and will not show images or only display a small section appearing to be hung up or trapped in the module position. www.51wraps.com. I have noticed that I'm having the same issue but less frequently with the slide on the landing page of www.thermofilms.com built from the inspire theme. Desperately looking for the fix to this very frustrating bug!

Avatar stefano.gargiulo answered

I think i wrote a raw code patch for this issue.

Please test it if you experience this problem with sildeshow (it solved to me):

  1. backup your media/widgetkit/widgets/slideshow/js/lazyloader.js coping it to lazyloader.js.orig
  2. paste this code in media/widgetkit/widgets/slideshow/js/lazyloader.js (REPLACE ALL THE FILE CONTENTS)
    GRAB THE CODE HERE: http://pastebin.com/56C22t8B
  3. clean your browser cache and, if any, the joomla cache and test it!

it adds a wait for real image load event in the DOM so width and heights can be calculated well by the js code of widgetkit...

Please let me know if worked or report issues at info@creativeprogramming.it

It isn't working with mine, i have the following code, was working fine before i decided to upgrade to widget kit 1.1.

<img alt="ZD top banners" src="images/dental%20banners%20frontpage/ZD%20top%20banners.png" height="329" width="990" />

any help would be great as im not getting anywhere, only difference I can see is i dont have full URL path (www.mysite.com/image.png) but i never needed it previously.

Like I say it worked perfectly until the update of widget kit

-1

Avatar gerald.chow answered

well no thanks to the staff I have found a work around, in my case when I hit f5 or on the initial load the system wouldnt load the image properly even though the code is correct, I changed the the style to default and it works fine, its only on the balance style I have the issue, not really the fixed I hope for but at least it works.

I would like to hear if that fixes it for anyone else :)

Try this:

with

<img style="border-radius: 6px 6px 6px 6px;" class="size-auto" src="image.jpg" alt="Image Name" height="90" border="0" width="120" />

Remove class="size-auto". But ensure you keep dimension settings.

Save, expunge cache and reload.

If this works - problem solved - but created the new problem of how to re-size your images without breaking slideshow!

Lol...

I have the same issue - class="size-auto" breaks maps and slideshow for me... needs a fix.

I was having a problem with the slideset loading on the subsequent "posts" page: /page/2, /page/3, etc.

I had to put the full image path in img src not just wp-content/uploads/....png for it to work.

Have the same issue in Joomla on Safari: Slideshow - Gallery Showcasebox Style. The first load would not load the full navbar with the small slideset. Had to set a px height to the navbar (minus padding) and min-height for the Slideshow Slides to fix it (Override). Did not test it in IE yet. Works in FF, Safari, Chrome

Well its over a year since this issue was first reported - and I now join the crowd of confused slideshow users. My problem is strangely different - on one system - my sandbox Wordpress site - all has worked well. On the production version - the widget never completely finishes presenting the tabs - see the attached screenshot. I've tried to troubleshoot this for days. All software is at teh same levels and I am using the same browser - just two different sites. Same html (see next)

<div id="fancybutton" class="button-primary"><a id="fancybutton" style="color: #ffffff;" href="/frm_display/usm540-12-05-list/" class="fancybox-iframe">View Best Practices</a></div>

So I am perplexed at what the difference might be.

oh - couldn't work out how to attach a file - here's the webpage

Hello All,

It looks like this is a problem for quite a few people - I'm hoping it has been resolved and someone from Yootheme can offer clear guidance?

I'm using the MiCasa Theme here: www.northbridgecounseling.com. We're suffering the same problem - only loads about the first 20-25 pixels of the 250h Slideshow on first launch of the page. It's happening in IE, Firefox, Chrome, and on my Android smartphone.

I have each image set with the class="size-auto" to maintain the Responsive site.

?

Thanks, Rich

I've investigated this some more and it appears to be more of a gantry issue though I haven't been able to solve it. it's not possible to fix this issue inside gantry's template manager.
