Widgetkit - Support for Joomla Articles as content

Hi Yootheme

You are now at Beta release 19 for Widgetkit and I have seen little evidence that support for normal Joomla article content (eg Slideshows, Slidesets & Accordion) will be part of this component. The original YooTools had this of course and it was obviously a core method of their use, so clearly not yet a replacement set of tools.

Support for "Articles" would allow the use of Joomla publication dates (to age out old articles & introduce new ones) and avoid duplication of content (to slideshow articles you need to recreate, hardly good practice).

There is however, support for Zoo content for these functions, an essential feature to avoid content duplication in Zoo apps. Thank you for that, however, it infers that Widgetkit will be Zoo content centric and non-zoo content will not be catered for.

Can Yootheme please comment if support for standard article content is part of the roadmap and if so when?

Thanks Peter

PS I added this in the old forum just prior to its closure so I have raised in the new forum.

Currently it is not on our todo list to use Joomla articles in Widgetkit. But actually you can do all this using ZOO items with Widgetkit.

In most cases you need to create new content for Slideshow, etc and you can't really use an existing Joomla article because the markup may not fit and it would look bad. But you are right, we see the need for "News Tabs" to teaser articles. We will think about it and put it on our to do list if more people vote this question up. :-)

Would love to know how to place an article into a slideshow. Looks like there is an answer but the actual code is eluding me.

Hi all members

Let's get the voting really going (was 13 at time of this post). We can all do with having access to normal Joomla article content for display with Widgetkit.

Hi All

The response has been great so far, hopefully YOOtheme will add it to their "to-do" list sooner than later. Keep the votes coming guys!

You've my vote ;-)
I thought it would cooperate with the very nice plugin 'articles anywhere' but unfortunately, it doesn't work...

hi cornelam. actually it does work with articles anywhere but you have to manualy put the article tags together with the article id in widgetkits code {article 1}{text}{article}. the problem is that the articlesanywhere button doesnt show on the footer of the editor box in each slide.
if you look at the documentation on articlesanywhere you can find all supported tags.

ZOO is obviously Yootheme's own product competing with the widely accepted K2 construction kit, so there would be no hope of getting to choose K2 content beside the Joomla button on Accordion, Slideshow widgets? K2 uses content structure separately from Joomla core.
I would even be glad to pay a fee for this additional functionality, since I really love Widgetkit. Please consider.

Yep - count! i just wonder yet a long time why you guys don't recreate the whole Joomla thing since there is such a great load of knowledge and sense for fresh - unfuckinfassbar "thanks for this one Rea" go(o)d working and looking stuff.

can you share the method for adding a joomla article to a widgetkit item? Peter, did you get an answer to your question here on slideshow/slideset?

I think the people need, and I need too, to set a category from joomla articles in widgetkit to load a amount of itens of this category contents in slide shows and others widget types like old yootools do. This is very usefull for automate and control displays contents with a less work.

Hi Artur
I assume this means access to Joomla articles not support for "Articles Anywhere"?
Cheers Peter

Hi Sascha

Thanks for prompt action in supporting Joomla articles! The voting system works!

I have quickly tested in J1.5.25 the Accordion and Slideshow functions and while I see content using the accordion method I get nothing visible for the Slideshow method (same articles).

On a quick look with Firebug I do see that the article content is picked up but there is a selector of ".wk-slideshow" that has "visibility set to hidden". Turning this off does allow the content to be displayed but the height is only 30px (minimum) so only navigation elements are displayed plus a single line of text.

Can you confirm that slideshow function does work for J1.5.25 please before I go further. Also would be nice if you say what is not supported in articles - for example I see that Widgetkit Lightbox is not (when using the accordion at least).

Thanks Peter
